1940's Burlesque Wrap Dress Costume
|Availability:||In stock (1)|
Become a Chariot of Fire in this stunning 1940's Burlesque costume. Designed especially for a showgirl who was famous in the Midwest, this piece is confirmed to be one-of-a-kind. An incredibly talented artist designed this piece, then a team of highly skilled seamstresses worked on it as it was worn by the buyer. It was her outer garment, or robe, as she performed her Burlesque act. When she died, she donated all her clothing to a collector in Chicago.
Adorned with breathtaking sunset-colored ruffles, it looks like you're on fire as you walk and swish the skirt. Wear this piece to a masquerade ball, black tie gala, or to your own wedding. Or preserve and showcase this remarkable piece of history in a glass box.
Women's size 0 - 4 (wraparound ties)
Front Length 52"
Back Length 59"
Lovingly Restored: This piece was filthy and falling apart when we found it in a basement in the Midwest. We cleaned this piece 3 times, but there is still some staining on the underside of the back hem from the years of the performer dragging it around a stage. There's history in those stains! All ruffles have been hand sewn back on, and seams have been replaced or reinforced by machine.
